The German agency stuck ads of their client to flies and sent them off flying around the Frankfurt book fair. Why not, right? Flies are so low maintenance as promoters.

Ana Nicholson Holographic Art

A series of holographic work by Ana Nicholson, the director of Holocenter, the only center in New York dedicated to exploring Holographs as fine art. The relationship of the audience to the artwork and spatial construction is one to be examined as the idea is that the subject moves around to see the holograph's full effects. The Urban Cursor
The Urban Cursor is a project by Danish designer Sebastian Campion. The cursor has a GPS and it shows where the object has been moved by people on the street, therefore encouraging social interaction. People can play with it, move it, use it as a chair, a table... From the GPS device the cursor sends out its whereabouts to the website. People can also add photos of the cursor to the website. It is an interesting socially involved art project questioning the relationship between people and objects, as well as providing a new opportunity of human interaction through an inanimate object.
Digital cursors in public spaces are very popular these days. There is also the recent Red Arrow Project in Brooklyn, providing a new way to navigate the city. And of course the pioneer of all arrows, the Yellow Arrow, mixing public art with technology through a socio-historical framework telling the secret stories of New York City by the inhabitants.

Battle Of Branchage By Seeper
Seeper, a London based arts and technology collective, created this architectural projection mapping for the Branchage Film Festival. It is yet another amazing example of mapping. It seems the next step to go in this field is to do more things with sound. The element of sound does not seem to be exploited to its full potential.

Burger King Augmented Reality Banner

Cool beans. In order to promote the addition of the bigger and meatier double cheeseburger into the dollar menu, Burger King, working with agency Crispin, Porter + Bogusky, made an augmented reality banner. It works just like the Croquette Awards augmented reality award we saw some months ago. Users hold up a dollar bill to the web cam to get their augmented reality burger. There are also some surprises if you flip the dollar bill around too much. Nice work, and a good indication of where internet campaigns are going.

Hand From Above
Hand From Above by Chris O'Shea involves a giant finger that plays around with the people on the street through the CCTV camera image projected onto a big screen. Launched at the inauguration of the Abandon Normal Devices Festival, a festival of cinema and digital culture, Hand From Above is made for BBC Big Screen Liverpool. BBC Big Screen is a project providing cities with big screens where they can watch events and films. Interesting combination of digital, interactive, public art, cinema, events and CCTV cameras!

I Just Made Love!

Here's a new addition to social media, I Just Made Love is a live feed site combining Google maps, Twitter and Loopt, showing people around the world who just made love, including details such as where and how they made it. It's like the California crime map but with a positive edge. Here, it's the person who made love that is reporting the act rather than the neighbor reporting a crime. Imagine a mashup of the two sites showing you a crime and sexual act being committed next door to each other, even better imagine a person reporting they just had sex and someone else reporting the same act as a crime. Yes, it's a good time to revisit Foucault's idea of the Panopticon...

Helikopter Boyz
A dance performance made by two little Japanese boys for the promotion of Nikon's new digital camera, which lets you take a picture and project it onto a surface right from the camera. via Ypsilon2
I love the dance performance. These two Japanese boys should collaborate with Daft Punk or something.

Fifty People One Question
I had seen this series of "fifty questions" videos some time ago and came across it again today. It is such a weirdly emotional piece. The awkward moments give it the human touch. The music has a lot to do with it, also the positive approach is powerfully moving. Nice and simple idea, beautifully shot. You have to meet Crush + Lovely. Crush + Lovely is a creative studio built on the belief that the web can be better; that by simply making it a little more human, by connecting people in ways that provide true value in their lives.

Michael Jackson Tribute In Istanbul
They're even doing flashmobs in Istanbul! This one isn't for a particular brand which is the best part of it. It's a tribute to Michael Jackson with a bunch of people doing his dance moves. For those who haven't been to Istanbul, Istiklal street is the busiest street and getting permission to do anything there is almost impossible. That is the beauty of this piece, quick, smooth and involving a lot of people. Note that the crowd disappears right away because the police are very savvy in these situations, and in Istiklal there are herds of them. These videos are taken from two different perspectives
Ricardo Bofill's Loft

Definitely a dream home. Spanish architect Ricardo Bofill's home and office space is an old cement factory in Barcelona. What a beauty. via

Dub Lab By Dub Video Connection

Dub Lab, a division of Dub Video Connection, designated for more experimental projects, opened their exhibition on October 1 in Who Gallery (Rua Luz Soriano nÂș71, Bairro Alto, Lisbon). The exhibition that will go on until November 15 features Dub Lab's digital and interactive projects. The attention grabber was VJ Box, a touch screen panel that lets the user experience the VJ's universe. The box functions like a mixing board where the user can chose video clips, mix them together, play with the speed, motion and transparency of the videos. The design of the exhibition space was well thought out and beautifully constructed with projections and lighting. It is a not to be missed exhibition whose works are sure to bring buzz in the coming months.

Recycling Space In Times Of Economic Hardship

Couple of weeks ago the New York magazine posted this "what if" article about the question of urban squatters in unused office spaces. In Manhattan, the number of empty offices have risen since the economic downturn, so why not reconsider these spaces as living spaces, the new loft for the urban adventurist? Initially, the idea of the loft rose from a similar situation. In an earlier financial crisis factories in the city were left empty and starving artists turned them into their homes, thereby romanticizing the concept of the loft. I like the idea of turning an empty office into a living space, and abandoning the rules strictly dividing residential from commercial space.

Downhill Skating Tetris
Glow in the dark is definitely in. I love this video, a bunch of skaters skating downhill carrying neon lit shapes to form a tetris game. Reminds you of your tetris obsession when you used to see everything around you like a tetris game, trying to fit the furniture together in your house to get a level to go down, or imagining lining up your friends next to each other. Nice way to bring back the obsession.
