Rock Paper Scissors Augmented Reality

Yet another augmented reality, totally pointless and fun. This one is for loners, those that don't even have friends to play rock paper scissors with. You put your tshirt on and go on this site and start playing. I like the dog in the video, and of course the guy on the toilet.

Augmented Reality Costemics

Of course it's the Japanese that did this first! In a department store in Japan there is an augmented reality mirror where you can try make up from Japanese cosmetics brand Shiseido. After taking a picture of your face you can choose different color lipstick, blush, eyeshadow, etc. If it looks good, you buy it, if it doesn't, well you've just spent half an hour packed with fun trying on virtual makeup.

Ambushing Hate Protests

What a nice way to ambush the retarded hate sign originator Westboro church's latest attempt at protesting Twitter at its San Francisco headquarters. I absolutely love this event. The hate signs were ambushed with signs of absurdity. These signs make as much sense, if not more, than the original hate signs. Needless to say the "god hates fags" sign originators were not happy, judging from their pseudo-illiterate diatribe on their hate website. I was promised Donuts, damnit! via

Ogilvy Idea Shop

Ogilvy will set up shop for 3 days in London offering its expertise to the public. It's a very smart PR technique, but even smarter research tool. The shop is open as they say "to anyone and everyone"... but here's how that sentence continues "from small businesses and social enterprises to charities and art projects." And you have to book your 1 hour slot in advance, which I assume is a good screening process for Ogilvy. In any case, it works well for both parties, Ogilvy gives creative solutions to businesses, and in return gets good ideas and research material about what's happening out there in the entrepreneurial and art world. Good way to step outside of the office and see what others are doing.

La Puerta

Stop motion work by Sam3 (no idea who it is, but it seems like soon we'll know). It goes to show how important audio work is. There's a moment of beautiful flow in the middle, which looks like the subject is sliding from door to door.

Light Writing Proposal

Long time no write!
Here's a guy that escapes the cliche of dropping a diamond ring into the wine glass, or hiding it in the petit gateux. That sort of thing is for fat people.
The light writing proposal took Derick Childress 3 days of good planning and accommodation in a hotel in North Carolina. Light graffiti is definitely a trend these days, just like glow in the dark skeleton clothes are in music videos.
The technique is one that involves taking long exposed pictures of a light source creating a streak of light. Nice work Derick. And from the looks of it Emily said yes, since on their site you can donate a dollar to the young couple.

Follow The White Rabbit

A campaign by Fallon to promote the 2 hour movie special of Alice, on Syfy Channel. Fallon decided to focus on the white rabbit as they claim this is the character that people most remember from the film. There were white rabbits walking around in New York as well as a beamvertising of the rabbit which you could then follow onto the web.

Emirates Airlines Cinema

Ambient marketing done for Emirates Airlines by Leo Burnett, Brazil. The movie theater is made to look like an airplane, with small windows on the sides, ambient sounds of an airplane and the big screen projecting the skyline ahead. The activity is to promote the idea that flying with Emirates Airlines is like going to the movies as the airline provides a great in-flight entertainment service offering 1200 channels.

Cardon Copy Street Signs

How funny and bad are those announcements of missing cats or people offering services that you see on street poles? Here's a great attempt by Cardon Copy at making the world a more aesthetically pleasing place... ambushing these signs and replacing them with their well designed versions. Nice guerrilla work and a good PR attempt for the designer. via pagina2

Camouflage by Fred Lebain

French photographer Fred Lebain took pictures of New York last spring and printed them in a large format. He then returned to the same spots and superimposed the posters on the same locations.

Parra and Stones Throw Ice Cream Truck

After the Kogi Taco Truck in LA, the mobile trucks selling tasty foods seems like such a good idea. This weekend an ice cream truck provided by Hearts Challenger will go driving around LA while tweeting their whereabouts. It's a collaborative venture of Stones Throw Records, a record label, Hearts Challenger, a lifestyle brand providing trucks to promote DIY culture. Their trucks come stocked with things like candy, icecream, jewelry, glitter guns, aka paraphernalia of ravers, suitable objects regarding the Hearts Challenger idea was born during a rave in the 90s.

As if that wasn't enough name dropping, the ice cream truck in LA this weekend features the drawings of Parra, a famous underground Dutch graphic artist and typographer. LA hipsters and foodies will follow the Stones Throw twitter account to see where the truck will be at.

The Pop-Up City

The Pop-Up City is a blog that I came across some months ago and it never ceases to amaze me. It is an initiative by the Dutch urban strategy and planning agency Golfstromen. There is always an interesting article and a fresh intellectual approach. In its own words it is "a project that explores new concepts, strategies and methods for a dynamic and flexible interpretation of contemporary urban life." They examine space, and more specifically, the usage of urban space via design and architecture and through a socio-economical and cultural framework. What is more interesting than seeing how people live and see what artists/architects/designers make out of an environment through each one's specific creative approach.

Beyond an aesthetical concern with space, The Pop-Up City's deeper mission is to shed light to different forms of dynamic urbanism (especially the distinction between public/private space) and question if current urban planning strategies answer to the ever so fast developing needs of cities after globalization. And not just that... It is also about good ideas from around the world incorporating urban settings.

Le Coq Sportif Store By Raar

A new concept store of Le Coq Sportif designed by Dutch design studio Raar. As the customer walks around the store the light picks up the movement of the customer and intensifies the light around where the subject is walking and which products are being looked at. An interactive store, a new experience to say the least.

Volcom Give Jeans A Chance

A funny little video with some great lyrics. It's Volcom's socially engaged recycled jeans project encouraging people to give away their old jeans to Volcom who will then ship it off to the National Coalition for the Homeless. If you drop off your jeans you also enter into a raffle to win a year supply of Volcom jeans.

Adidas Teamgeist

Advergame by Adidas with great visual production and engaging story line. The game's mission is to recover the stories behind the jerseys of the Germany national team. Interesting concept, great timing with for such marketing and a fun way to sell merchandising. Playing the actual advergame is a little difficult and needs patience but when you get to the end it reveals the true story behind the German national team jersey.

Cabrecega At Experimenta's Coca Cola Light Exhibition

Project by Cabracega commissioned for Coca Cola Light's exhibition in Experimenta Design 2009. I especially like Mary Had A Little Lamp, providing you company for those lonely reading nights. And of course, the super rare edition of 20 tear flasks are the not to be missed buy of the season.

Female Friendly Taxis

I just read on Springwise that in Puebla, Mexico there is a new service offering taxis just for women. It's a great thing to offer safe ways of transportation for women, however, does this reinforce the idea of violence and submission? Some women may never feel threatened to take a taxi, but knowing that there are taxis just for them they might question "should I be scared to take a normal taxi?" It creates a fear that may not have been existent. And better yet, the taxis are pink! What a stereotypical way to represent gender, pink for girls, blue for boys. This is more of a marketing idea than an attempt for social change. It's privately financed, the taxis are equipped with things like beauty kits and emergency panic buttons. Might as well call it "taxis for annoyingly vain women with potential to get hysterical and have panic attacks". Well surely the merchandising and sponsorship opportunities can be endless, the taxis can sell beauty products, anti-depressants, diapers for moms, push up bras. What else does a woman need, safety and beauty all in one big pink car.
